Hendrik Czakainski (b. 1979, Germany) is a German contemporary artist whose work investigates urbanisation, industrialisation and the transformation of landscapes in the age of the Anthropocene. Combining painting, relief and architectural construction, he creates intricate three-dimensional compositions that evoke cities and territories seen from above.
Working with materials including MDF, cardboard, filler, pigments and metal powders, Czakainski constructs environments in which order and chaos, beauty and destruction continually coexist. Inspired by urban structures, industrial sites and the rapidly developing megacities he encountered during travels in South Asia, his works do not reproduce specific places. Instead, they transform their underlying structures into imagined landscapes that hover between representation and abstraction.
