Born in Fribourg in 1988, Anton Hasler is a Swiss artist living and working in Lausanne. He began working independently as an artist in 2018 before pursuing his artistic education at the École supérieure des Arts de Mons in Belgium, where he obtained a Master’s degree in contemporary artistic practice in 2023.
Hasler has developed a distinctive pictorial language situated between dream and reality. Drawing on mythology, symbolism and art history, his compositions bring together human and allegorical figures within spaces where conventional temporal and spatial references dissolve. His practice is deliberately hybrid: oil painting interacts with airbrush, digital drawing, printing and other contemporary processes, creating a constant tension between materiality and virtual imagery.
Through these layered and often anachronistic narratives, Hasler examines the relationship between nature and culture and questions humanity’s place within the Anthropocene. Mythological figures and elements of collective memory coexist with technology and contemporary visual culture, allowing past, present and imagined futures to overlap. His paintings thus become spaces in which the boundaries between the human, technological and living worlds are continuously reconsidered.
Hasler’s work has been exhibited in Switzerland and internationally. Recent exhibitions include Momentum of Life at Laurent Marthaler Contemporary, Montreux (2024), Trans Zen Denz at AOA;87, Berlin (2024), and Aqua Modis at the Museum of Morat (2023). He has undertaken artist residencies in Tuscany and Berlin, and his work is represented in the collections of the State of Fribourg Acquisition Fund, the Museum of Art and History of Fribourg and the Museum of Morat.
