"I don't destroy these cars, I give them new forms."
Pierre-Alain Münger is a Swiss contemporary artist whose work explores impact, transformation, and the traces left by invisible forces. Working primarily with metal, he investigates how objects change when subjected to extreme physical pressure, revealing forms that exist beyond their original function.
Best known for his FACES series, Münger creates works through carefully orchestrated car crashes, propelling vehicles into lacquered metal plates at high speed. The resulting impressions preserve the unique identity of each vehicle while transforming it into a new visual language of marks, memory, and material presence.
Combining sculpture, performance, printmaking, and conceptual research, Münger's work examines the relationship between object, history, and transformation. His practice invites viewers to consider how traces shape our understanding of identity, experience, and time.
